A Glance in the Rearview Mirror (March 2012)
Where did this month go? Oh, it flitted by on the wings of chirping birdies and was carried along on rays of sunshine and unseasonably warm weather? My bad. In which case, bring it on. March was a great month here at Laurel of Leaves. The veggie garden in my backyard is being dug, compost is being built, and green was the color of the month.
One of my favorite acquisitions for our new house? A Scotts Classic reel mower! I’m planning to post more on this awesome non-motorized push mower next month, but suffice it to say that we don’t have to pay for gas or maintain anything with the reel mower. And trust me – it’s NOTHING like your Dad’s or Grandpa’s old mower.
I know you’ve heard horror stories from paternal generations past about lugging a heavy mower through the yard in the heat of the day, straining and heaving and ho-ing and swearing up and down they’d never do it again. I know this because I heard those same stories from my Dad and my Uncle. ;) But not so, my dear readers! Not so. Stay tuned for more on reel mowers in the coming weeks.
On the Blog
On the blog in March, you guys made your thoughts known on my politically incorrect post, World Hunger Solved (And Other Dirty Thoughts). The post was also featured on Butter Believer’s Sunday School blog carnival! I also made a guest appearance on Suzanne Bowen Fitness with 10 Ways to Save Money on Your Grocery Budget. I’m all about saving money and being frugal.
I’m also all about the healthy food. I covered everything from the more mature, healthy version of gas station slushies – Orange Berry Green Tea Slushie . . .
. . . to French toast in muffin form (muffins – my favorite!) . . .
. . . to a revisitation of my Ultimate Carrot Cake. It’s an indulgence, but my recipe contains zero refined sugar! A healthy indulgence to say the least.
And if that weren’t enough for you, I posted on the Best Natural Eye Make-up Remover. Did anyone try the challenge? I’d love to hear how it went for you! This post was also featured on Your Green Resource by The Greenbacks Gal. Thanks for that!

Looking Ahead to April
Lots of fun things in the works for April! For starters, I’m participating in a Growing Green series this month in honor of Earth Day with Broccoli Cupcake, i Dream of Clean, and The Frugal Seed. Each week you’ll find different posts on each of our blogs relating to a green theme. This week is Simple Tips to GO Green. After that look for Simple Tips to SAVE Green, THINK Green, and TEACH Green.
This month I’ll also be taking a vacation to Asheville, North Carolina! So I need all your best recommendations for local, healthy restaurants and things to do and see!
How was March for you? What are looking forward to in April?
